The study was conducted to identify optimal basal medium and plant growth regulators for multiplication of seedlings and rhizomes from asymbiotic germination of Cymbidium species which were native at a temperate zone. Seeds of Cymbidium kanran was well germinated in 3g/§¤ hyponex, 4g/§¤ peptone, 0.1§·/§¤ NAA and 0.01§·/§¤ kinetin containing medium. Multiplication of rhizomes of all the species which were tested in this experiment were highly stimulated in H3P4 medium containing 2.0§·/§¤ NAA and 0.2§·/§¤ kinetin. Growth of seedlings of Cymbidium kanran was more favorable in H3P4 medium with 1.0§·/§¤ NAA and 3.0§·/§¤ BA, and that of C. goeringii, with 1.0§·/§¤ NAA and BA. On the other hand, seedlings of C. sinensis forma hakuran, C, faberi and C. ensifolium were grown well in the medium with 2.0§·/§¤ NAA and 1.0§·/§¤ BA. Shooting from rhizomes and growth of seedlings of six varieties and seven Fl hybrids were very good in H3P4 medium supplemented with 2.0§·/§¤ NAA and 1.0§·/§¤ BA. When these seedlings were transplanted into activated charcoal added medium, the seedlings were grown well to root.
